CenterStage Theatre Company is pleased to announce open auditions for the musical Avenue Q.

All auditions are by appointment: Friday, May 8 6:45pm to 8:45pm; Saturday, May 9, 1:30pm to 5:30pm. Callbacks, if needed will be May 10, 1pm to 5pm. All auditions will be at Dana V Music, 901 Front Street, Louisville, 80027 (in the basement suites)

Avenue Q Audition Requirements:

All actors must be college age or older (as of summer 2015) to audition. Prepare approximately 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show that shows off your range. You may also prepare a second, contrasting 16-bar selection as well (optional, not required). PLEASE DO NOT SING A SONG FROM THE SHOW. Bring sheet music in your key; an accompanist will be provided. A CD or MP3 track with accompaniment only is also acceptable, provided it is edited and cued correctly. No a cappella auditions. Some actors may be asked to do cold readings from the script. All those auditioning are encouraged to provide a résumé of their onstage experience and training and bring a headshot (if available – this does not have to be a professional photo). Digital photos of actors may also be taken at the audition. Please bring a list of all potential conflicts, travel, etc. for the time period June 10 to August 9. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed with the Director and agreed to before casting can be confirmed.

Rehearsals:

Music rehearsals will be June 10, 17, 24 from 530pm to 915pm. Blocking rehearsals will begin late June and will typically be Mon-Thurs evenings and Sunday afternoons starting June 29 through July 29. Performance dates run July 30 to August 9. Performances will be held at the Louisville Arts Center.

Character Breakdown:

PLEASE NOTE: Ages listed are for the character, not necessarily the actor!

Brian: A laid-back guy married to Christmas Eve. Male, 30-45 yrs old. Range B2-F#4

Christmas Eve: A therapist who recently moved to Avenue Q from Japan. Female, 30-45 yrs old. Range: B3-F#5

Gary Coleman: Yes, that Gary Coleman. Lives on the Avenue and is superintendent of the apartment buildings. Female, 30-40 yrs old. Range: D3 - Bb5

Kate Monster: A Kindergarten teaching assistant, who is a bit older than Princeton. Puppet. Female, 25-30 yrs old. Range: F#3 - F5

Lucy: A vixenish vamp with a dangerous edge. Puppet. Female, 25-30 yrs old. Range: F3 - F5

Mrs. T: Crabby and ancient. Kate's boss. Puppet. Female, 50-65 yrs old. Speaking Role

Nicky: A slacker who lives with Rod. Puppet. Male, 20-30 yrs old. Range: B2 - B4

Princeton: A fresh-faced kid just out of college and the protagonist. Puppet. Male, 20-25yrs old. Range: Bb2 – G4

Rod: An investment banker who is Republican and a closeted homosexual. Puppet. Male, 25-30 yrs old. Range: A2 - G4

The Bad Idea Bears: Two snuggly, cute teddy-bear types. Puppets. 1 Male, 20-40 yrs old; 1 Female, 20-40 yrs old

Trekkie Monster: A reclusive creature obsessed with the Internet and all it has to offer. Puppet. Male, 30-40 yrs old. Range: Bb2 - Eb4

All auditions are by appointment: May 15, 4:40pm to 8:20pm, and May 17, 2:10pm to 5:50pm, at St. Ambrose Episcopal Church (7520 South Boulder Road in Louisville). Callbacks, if needed, will be held May 18 from 4:30pm to 8:30pm at the Louisville Arts Center (801 Grant Ave).

Digital photos of all actors will also be taken at the auditions. Please bring a list of all potential conflicts including school events, travel, etc. for the time period May 20-July 31. Any conflicts with the posted schedule must be discussed with the Director and agreed to before casting can be confirmed. If cast, tuition fees and costume fees apply.

Character Breakdown:

SWEENEY TODD (Male, Baritone, Range: F2 - Gb4) A wrongfully imprisoned barber seeking to right the wrongs committed against him. He is Johanna's father, singularly focussed on taking bloody revenge. Our story's tormented protagonist.

MRS. LOVETT (Female, Alto, Range: G3 - E5) An entrepreneurial and amoral meat pie shop owner. She falls in love with Todd and turns his desire for revenge into a profitable business venture.

ANTHONY HOPE (Male, Baritenor, Range: Bb2 - F4) A naive and youthful sailor returning to London. He helps Todd return to London and unexpectedly falls in love with Johanna.

JOHANNA (Female, Lyric Soprano, Range: Bb3 - A5) A spritely girl, full of innocence, constantly yearning for freedom. Todd's long-lost daughter and Turpin's ward.

BEGGAR WOMAN (Female, Mezzo with Belt, Range: Ab3 - F5) A deranged and schizophrenic woman who harbors a dark, surprising secret.

TOBIAS RAGG (Male, Tenor, Range: Bb2 - Ab4) A poor youngster apprenticed to Pirelli. He finds a surrogate family in Todd and Lovett.

JUDGE TURPIN (Male, Baritone, Range: E2 - Gb4) A lecherous public official who portrays himself as a sanctimonious authoritarian. He takes advantage of his position in the city and is responsible for imprisoning Todd.

THE BEADLE (Male, High Tenor with Strong Falsetto, Range: D3 - D5) A pompous public official. He is deeply loyal to the corrupt Turpin.

ADOLFO PIRELLI (Male or Female, High Tenor or Alto, Range: B2 - C5) A flamboyant Italian rival barber; a charlatan with a secret past.

JONAS FOGG (Male or Female) The owner of Fogg's Asylum. He sells the hair of madmen to wigmakers.

ENSEMBLE TOWNSPEOPLE; POLICEMEN; LUNATICS (Male and Female) Very strong singers who can hold their own part singing up to eight-part harmony.
